EE Student-Faculty Dinners

Get ready and get excited, because during the spring semester, you can take a member of the EE faculty out to a nice dinner, reimbursed up to $40 per person by the department. Don't miss this opportunity to interact with your favorite professor!

1. Form a group of 3-5 EE/CE undergraduates.
Note: If you sign up with a group and it turns out some of your party cannot attend, the group that goes to dinner still must be between 3-5 EE/CE undergraduates or we cannot reimburse you.

2. Talk to your favorite EE professor.
Contact your professor (not a TA) and schedule a date for the Student-Faculty Dinner. Don't worry if other students have already talked to them. Professors can go on as many dinners as they'd like.

Not certain how to reach out to a professor? No worries! Here is an example of how to do so:

Subject: Student-Faculty Dinner

Hi Professor ____,

My name is ___, a student in your ____ class. A couple of students, including myself, (namely student 1, student 2, etc) were wondering if you are interested in having a free dinner with us through the EE Student-Faculty Dinner Program. We have enjoyed your class so far, and would love to get to know you more outside of the classroom. Let us know if you are interested so that we may find a time that works best!

Thank you,
Your Name

3. Pick a date before May 2, 2016 that works for everyone.
Once the professor gets back to you with an affirmation, then find a date and time when everyone can meet for dinner. The following tools may be helpful:

4. Register the dinner.
Fill out this following Google Form to register a dinner.

5. Enjoy your dinner and conversation with your professor.
One student should pay for the entire dinner and submit the reimbursement. Request an itemized receipt. It must include the restaurant name, each item and its price, and date of service. Make sure you also get your proof of payment (e.g. the credit card receipt, which could very well be just part on the Receipt itself). Without both an itemized receipt AND a receipt containing proof of payment, you will not be reimbursed. Don't forget the tax exemption form! Columbia will not reimburse you for alcohol or tax.

If you pay in cash, you must have a receipt from the restaurant stating that you paid in cash, in addition to the itemized receipt, else you will not be reimbursed.

6. Thank your professor.
Maybe a thank you card is in order.

7. Get reimbursed.
For instructions on reimbursement, visit this page. Please submit your reimbursement materials within 30 days of the meal. Students will be issued a check, and correctly-filed reimbursements will take up to two weeks to process.
